FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COMPUTER ASSISTED - TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

Dr. Robert Rutkowski, an orthopedic surgeon at the Virginia Orthopedic Center, recently performed three total knee replacement surgeries at Culpeper Regional Hospital using new and innovative computer assisted technology.

The new procedure is beneficial for patients because it provides greater precision and accuracy in joint replacement; in addition, it improves the longevity of the implant (knee replacement implant). The procedure uses the CI System from Depuy, a Johnson & Johnson Company. It provides surgeons with a three dimensional view of the knee joint and detailed data to help the surgeon more precisely align components - software, hard ware and instruments - the CI system provides real time, three dimensional images of the individual patient's anatomy that are not easily visible through an incision. Using the CI System, Dr. Rutkowski has a clear view of the bone.

Dr. Rutkowski is one of the first orthopedic surgeons in Virginia to do CI System knee replacement surgery, also called computer assisted surgery. He can do total knee replacements as well as partial knee replacements (unicondylar knee replacements) with the CI System. Patients interested in learning more about knee replacement surgery and the CI System.

Patients interested in learning about knee replacement surgery and the CI System can contact DR. Rutkowski at 540-825-5362.
